Studio Residency Program
 

The 809 International Art Residencies (District) is the largest art district and art organization in China, located in the Three Gorges Dam area, Yichang City (Hubei Province) of Western area of China inland. The International Visual Art Residency Program (Live/Work) Studios is established for International professional visual artists, filmers, writers, dances, scholars, art organizers. No application fee, free studio spaces for all residencies. The studios are open all year round, and applications must be submitted three months before the project is due to start.

HOW TO APPLY
If you are a professional artist (
filmer, writer, dance, scholar, art organizer) who is interested in applying for a studio (live/work) at the 809 International Art District, you can download the Applications Form.

THE SELF-COST OF THE RESIDENTS:

1. Size of each studio space working /living) is approximately 80 to 150 square meters, and a minimum ceiling height of 4.5 meters. There are a few basic pieces of furniture, such as table, chairs, etc. One or two beds in each living room, and each studio has its own bathroom.

2. There is No phone & No TV in the studio (working /living). If you need a phone, please let our staff help you buy a cell phone when you arrive. But the studio has cable for your internet connection, and the internet series will cost(Chinese Yuan) 100 (about US$15.00) for one month.

3. Foodservices (food includes Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner), it will cost US$ 5 to US$ 10 per-day (one person) in the 809 cafeteria or the 809 public kitchen.

4. Water Fee & Electricity Fee, the 809 will charges ¥(Chinese Yuan) 160 (about US$23.00) for each studio (monthly).

5. Management Fee & Monthly Maintenance Fee, it will cost ¥(Chinese Yuan) 320 (about US$46.00) for one month.

6. All international residents must hold International Travel Health Insurance- Medical Insurance.

ABOUT THE 809 INTERNATIONAL ART RESIDENCIES:
Located
in the Three Gorges Dam area, Yichang City (Hubei Province) of Western area of China inland. The 809 also known as “The 809 Factories”– is in an excellent location, in the Yichang City, just 30 minutes away from the  809 to Yichang City Train Station. A taxi from the Airport takes approximately 40 - 50 minutes to the 809 or to Yichang city. 30 Km from the  809 to Shennongjia Scenic Area.

The 809 International Art Residencies (District) was first the batch of the military-industrial base factory buildings in Western area of China inland. The factories are built in the mid-1950s, and they were closed in the 1980s by government.

The total area of 550-acre site, divided into four more on the production and living areas, road traffic and motorcycle facilities integrity, unity, water, electricity, communications and other conditions in place. The mill, beautiful environment, with fresh air and a pleasant climate and summer temperatures in the city about as low as 2-5 degrees, is an ideal place to give ourselves the luxury of shelters. The plant area terrain experienced ups and downs and dense vegetation and species rich forests primarily based on the camphor tree and pine-dominated. The majority of them at the ages of 40 and above; the shape and layout of the landscape are basically 40 years old before the design and construction of the status quo ante.

The 809 International Art Residencies (District) will be converted to more 100 artist's studios (live/work), an art museum, an art gallery, a theatre, and artist Lofts, as well as domestic and foreign artists, writers to create a good life and the environment. Thus, the art district fosters the development of the international contemporary arts in China through exhibitions, lectures, festivals, international artist residency programs, and as well as through sustained partnerships with other arts organizations to enhance international art exchange and promote understanding between different cultures around the world.
